Preparation of a report on the deployment of renewable energy in the territory of Aragón

The project provided a comprehensive assessment of renewable energy deployment in Aragón, analysing its environmental, economic and social implications and exploring how the expansion of wind and solar energy can contribute to a just and sustainable energy transition. The study was designed to support regional decision-making by identifying opportunities and challenges associated with renewable energy development while balancing climate objectives, territorial planning considerations and local development priorities.

A key component of the work focused on the socio-territorial integration of renewable energy projects. This included an analysis of social perceptions of renewable energy across Aragón through semi-structured interviews and stakeholder surveys, aimed at understanding how different groups perceive and evaluate renewable energy deployment. The study also assessed landscape impacts in areas with a high concentration of renewable energy projects using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), providing insights into territorial integration and potential sources of social acceptance or conflict.

The consultancy also evaluated the socio-economic and environmental impacts of renewable energy deployment. Using Input-Output analysis, the project quantified the effects of renewable energy investments, electricity generation and associated fiscal revenues on economic activity and employment in Aragón. In addition, the study assessed the contribution of renewable energy to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and external energy dependency. The final outputs included strategic recommendations to maximise local benefits, strengthen social acceptance and support the sustainable and equitable deployment of renewable energy across the region.
