Project description
The project consisted of the development of a tool to support the “Landfill Zero SMEs” initiative promoted by the AVEQ-KIMIKA, aimed at optimising waste management in line with circular economy principles. The project focused on identifying alternatives to minimise landfill waste generated by SMEs in the chemical, rubber, plastics and glass transformation sectors.
The main objective of the project was to provide SMEs with a tool capable of assessing the environmental, social and economic impacts associated with their current waste management practices, as well as with the alternative management options identified. The tool also enabled companies to evaluate the degree of circularity of their waste management systems and supported the identification of improvements in management processes, recovery and recycling pathways, and new synergies within the framework of industrial symbiosis.
The environmental impacts were assessed using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) indicators, while the degree of circularity was evaluated through the Circular Transition Indicators developed by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), both specifically applied to company waste streams.
