Project description
The consultancy supported the development of a harmonised methodology for the monetisation of Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) associated with occupational accidents and diseases across the European Union. The objective was to assess existing approaches for valuing health impacts and develop a standardised framework that could be applied consistently across countries to support policy analysis and decision-making.
The work included a comprehensive review of the academic and institutional literature on the monetisation of occupational health impacts, with particular attention to DALY-based approaches and alternative indicators such as lost working days. The study also assessed the robustness and applicability of existing estimates and methodologies developed by international organisations and other relevant institutions.
In addition, the consultancy collected, evaluated and harmonised the data required to apply the selected methodologies across EU Member States. Based on this analysis, a standardised monetisation method was developed and validated through practical applications and case study assessments, providing a consistent framework for estimating the economic impacts of occupational accidents and diseases in the European Union.
