Consultancy to support the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources of El Salvador to establish an MRV to monitor the implementation of the NDCs

This project sought to support the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) of El Salvador to establish an MRV (Measurement, Reporting and Verification) system to monitor the implementation of the NDCs in line with the compliance reporting needs of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The MRV system sought to monitor the progress in climate change actions, the measurement of their effectiveness and improvements in management by the responsible institutions. For this, a series of indicators was developed to adequate the monitoring of (i) the progress of both mitigation and adaptation actions by MARN and other institutions involved, (ii) the NDC of El Salvador as well as (iii) the associated SDGs and in turn meet the transparency requirements of the Paris Agreement.

Metroeconomica’s work consisted of selecting these indicators and preparing the methodological calculation sheets, including the data sources, the formula for the indicator, its relevance, etc.
