Project description
Enhancing the understanding of the socio-economic benefits generated by climate services in the Pacific region was the central aim of this project, which focused on developing a dedicated methodology to assess the value, impacts and benefits of climate information in Fiji, Samoa and other Pacific Island contexts. The work sought to provide evidence on how climate services contribute to decision-making and resilience-building across key economic sectors.
The project included a comprehensive review of existing literature, reports and studies on the socio-economic impacts of climate services in the Pacific, identifying current knowledge, best practices and methodological approaches. Building on this analysis, a tailored framework was developed to estimate the socio-economic value, impacts and benefits of climate services, taking into account the specific characteristics, vulnerabilities and development priorities of Pacific Island countries.
The consultancy also applied the methodology to assess the value of climate information in selected sectors, including disaster risk management, energy and agriculture. The analysis quantified the benefits associated with the use of tailored climate services and generated evidence to support investment decisions, strengthen climate resilience and improve the integration of climate information into sectoral planning and policy development across the Pacific region.
