Project description
The consultancy examined current approaches to addressing climate-induced loss and damage, with the objective of strengthening the identification, design and implementation of effective responses at both programmatic and organisational levels. The work focused on developing a conceptual understanding of loss and damage interventions, analysing existing practices and identifying opportunities to enhance future responses.
The study included an extensive review of academic and grey literature, the development of a conceptual framework for loss and damage, and the application of specific identification criteria to select and analyse case studies of interventions addressing climate-related loss and damage. The analysis assessed gaps, challenges, lessons learned and emerging opportunities associated with efforts to avert, minimise and address loss and damage, while also considering issues related to inclusion, climate justice and social vulnerability.
In addition, the consultancy carried out an organisational assessment to evaluate the structural, systemic and programming capacities required to respond effectively to loss and damage. Based on the findings, the study developed recommendations to strengthen programmatic approaches, enhance institutional capacities and identify areas where faith-based organisations can contribute to restoring human dignity, well-being and resilience in contexts affected by climate-induced loss and damage.
