Project description
The project aimed to assess the transboundary effects of climate change on the Spanish economy, analysing how climate impacts occurring in other countries may affect national economic variables such as imports, exports, sectoral production, employment and prices. The analysis focused on two impact categories: agriculture and direct investment.
The estimates were developed using a multi-country and multi-sector computable general equilibrium (CGE) model, which incorporates international trade and investment flows across countries and economic sectors. The model enabled the simulation of how different climate shocks affecting the rest of the world alter the equilibrium of markets -including goods, services, labour and capital- and quantify their transboundary effects on the Spanish economy, including impacts on GDP, private consumption and economic welfare.
